Course Options

All courses are 4 weeks in duration. All students are provided with a coursebook.

General

  • 3 hours of general English
  • 2 1-hour extension classes focusing on specific skills (writing, speaking, pronunciation, etc.)
  • 1 hour self-access

Professional

  • 3 hours of general English
  • 1 1-hour extension class focusing on specific skills (writing, speaking, etc)
  • 1 1-hour professional class (4-students or less) focusing on the specific needs of the group
  • 1 hour self-access

Special

  • 3 hours of general English
  • 1 2-hour professional class (4-students or less) focusing on the specific needs of the group
  • 1 hour self-access

Courses are 6 hours per day Monday through Friday
Please note – the minimum age requirement for all courses is 17.

Class Levels

IH Johannesburg offers all levels from Beginner through advanced.* All students are interviewed and tested upon arrival and placed into a class. New students are then monitored by their teacher for the first few days to ensure they are in the appropriate level.

Student Progress

Assessment

Students are continually assessed throughout the course and their teachers are always available to assist and provide guidance. At the end of every 4-week course, students are also tested and will either move to the next level or continue at the same level depending on their evaluation. Students are given a progress report at the end of every 4-week course. Upon completion of their studies, all students are presented with a certificate indicating the final level the student passed

Self-Access

During their first week at IH, students are given an introduction to the Self-Access Centre. Regular training sessions on basic computer skills are also offered during self-access times free of charge.  Student s receive on-going support with their self-access study by their morning teacher, the librarian, and computer room assistant.
