PREPARATION
Ensure you get the IELTS score you need. The IELTS test has a very specific format and a preparation course is recommended even for native English speakers.
I attended the IELTS workshop that was held on Saturday the 29th November 2010 and subsequently I have written the exam.
The exam was not easy, but by attending the workshop, and trying some of the mock exams, I felt that I knew what was expected of me, and in a way was prepared for the exam.

Familiarity with the structure of the test has been proven to increase scores.
You can prepare for the IELTS test in the following ways:
1. IELTS Workshop
This is a ½ day workshop geared towards 1st language and Advanced 2nd language English speakers. It provides an introduction to and practice for all parts of the IELTS exam (General and Academic). Tea/Coffee and snacks are provided. Hours are 9.00 - 13.30 on Saturdays.
* Workshops must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance. There will be a R200 fee charged for cancellations.

2. IELTS preparation course
This is a 19 hour course geared towards foreign language learners and lower-level 2nd language English speakers. It provides a more in-depth look at the components of the academic IELTS exam with practice provided. Hours are 13.45 - 14.45 Monday-Friday.

Cost: R1,500 (includes registration fee at IH Language Lab)
3. Self study test preparation using the Official IELTS practice materials with DVD. This has examples and sample answers to help you prepare for IELTS. It is available at the IH Language Lab Library bookstore and reception.
